Lucky Loder’s Bride – The World News (NSW) – 1920

Eric Loder - The World News (NSW) - 17th July 1920Lucky Loder’s Bride

Major Eric Loder, one of the “lucky Loders,” and the divorced husband of Miss Gabrielle Ray, one of the most beautiful actresses on the English stage was married the other day to Iris Lady Lawson, the divorced wife of Sir Digby Lawson, of Grimston Lodge, Tadcaster. A registry office in Westminster was the scene of the wedding, and the few intimate friends present included the Hon. Eustace and Mrs. Fitzgerald, parents of the bride. The marriage of Major Loder and Miss Gabrielle Ray, at St. Edward’s Windsor, in March 1912 created a great deal of interest, and it was marked by an incident which was looked upon as an ill-omen by the superstitious. Major Loder and his friends were waiting at the church when a message was received that the bride had been taken ill and the ceremony was postponed. A long honeymoon tour followed, but Major Loder left his wife within a year, and he was divorced in 1914.

Iris Lady Lawson was married to Sir Digby Lawson in 1909. Ten years later she wrote him:- “Our life has been so miserable that I tell I must end it once and for all.” Sir Digby Lawson, having obtained leave to proceed with his divorce without naming a co-respondent, the production of an hotel registration form figured “Iris Lawson” proved his case.
