Gabrielle Ray – The Casino Girl – Folkestone Express, Sandgate, Shorncliffe & Hythe Advertiser – Saturday 13th September 1902

“THE CASINO GIRL”

On Thursday Mr Ben Greet’s Company opened with the revised version of “The Casino Girl.” One reason of the success attained in the provinces is that Mr Greet has adhered to his hard and fast rule of giving to the play-going public only “the best.” Consequently, both as regards artistes, dresses, scenery, and general appointments, the production is as near to perfection as it is possible to get. The company that Mr Ben Greet has selected to present “The Casino Girl” contains many artistes well-known to theatregoers both in London and the country most. A most important engagement has been made in the person of that droll American comedian Mr J. E. Sullivan (“The Polite Lunatic”), who plays “Pilsener Pasha,” his original character at the Shaftesbury Theatre, London. Amongst others in the cast are Messrs Eardley, Turner, Walter Freear (brothers of the famous little “Louie” of that ilk) Stanley White, Laurance Wensley, etc and Mesdames Maud Darling (who sustains the title role), Gabrielle Ray, Connie Leon, Beatrice Poole and Madge Cleaver, with an exceptionally large chorus of that youthful dashing character that Mr, Ben Greet made almost his own speciality. The company under the direction of Mr. J. Bannister Howard and Mr. W. J. Robertson looks after Mr Greet’s interests as business manager.
