Gabrielle Ray

'Gabrielle Ray said, 'I am always dancing; I love it! When I don't dance, I sing. What else is there to do?'

DANCING OUT THE OLD YEAR.

 AT THE PALAIS DE DANSE.

Over 2500 persons were present at the special Hogmanay Ball given at the Palais de Dense in Edinburgh on Saturday evening – a number which has never before been reached. The programme of dances, all modern, was lengthy, but one of the special features of the evening was that as soon as one band stopped the second immediately started, so that not a moment’s enjoyment was lost. As on a carnival night novelties figured strongly in the entertainment, and the crowded floor with the general scheme of decorations and special lighting effects made a most picturesque scene. Shortly after eleven o’clock Miss Gabrielle Ray and several of the artistes from the pantomime at the King’s Theatre arrived, and in addition to taking part in the festivities speciality dances were given by the “Babes in the Wood,” Mdlle. Rita Salami, who represented the “Spirit of the New Year,” M. Alexis Arturov, and the ballet. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” terminated a most enjoyable entertainment.
