Gabrielle Ray

'Gabrielle Ray said, 'I am always dancing; I love it! When I don't dance, I sing. What else is there to do?'

Gabrielle Ray – The Casino Girl – The South London Mail – Saturday 25th January 1902

Theatrical and Musical Gossip.

Next week the well-known musical farce, “The Casino Girl” (from the Shaftesbury Theatre), interpreted by Mr. Ben Greet’s company, will pay a welcome visit to the Deptford playhouse. “Clever. witty, and musical” was the verdict of a well-known critic on the production in this country of “The Casino Girl,” and the revised version to be presented at Deptford next week by Mr. Ben Green is now being played to three continents. Charming music and beautiful costumes distinguish “The Casino Girl” from all its rivals, while for real humour and boisterous fun it is without a rival. Miss. Isa Bowman’s sweet voice and dainty acting lend a special interest to the title role, and Misses Maggie Bowman and Gabrielle Ray also contribute to the fun, while the male characters are in the capable hands of Messrs. Cardley Turner, Max Copland, Walter Freear (brother of the famous little “Louie” of that ilk), Stanley White, etc. Playgoers who miss seeing the piece will undoubtedly miss a night’s hearty laughter and fun. A morning performance will be given on Thursday at 2. The company, which numbers sixty artistes, is under the able management of Mr. W. J. Robertson.
