Gabrielle Ray

'Gabrielle Ray said, 'I am always dancing; I love it! When I don't dance, I sing. What else is there to do?'

Gabrielle Ray – The Eckington, Woodhouse and Staveley Express – Saturday 26th June 1920

SHEFFIELD HIPPODROME.

One of the best given at the Sheffield Hippodrome for a long time past is there this week. A novel turn is that given by Milton Hayes. Gabrielle Ray, a comedy star, was given a very cordial reception, her appearance with her eight little acolytes being exceedingly pretty. The Westminster Singers were a distinct success, and M’lita  Dolores was a charming dancer.

Gabrielle Ray – The Penistone, Stocksbridge and Hoyland Express – Saturday 9th April 1921

SHEFFIELD HIPPODROME.

The programme at the Sheffield Hippodrome this week is a capital one. The chief attraction is the popular London musical comedy star, Miss Gabrielle Ray, who fully maintains her reputation as a danseuse and vocalist. Particularly charming was her crinoline song, in which she was assisted by eight very capable small children. Mr. Leslie Barker is Miss Ray’s partner, and his work is equally good. The programme also includes Hilda Nelson, with gems of melody; Chinko and Kaufman, in some good juggling and trick cycling; Gus Harris, a versatile character comedian; the “Three Scamps” and a piano, another good light comedy turn; “Main Steppers” (dancers), and Harry Gunn, comedian.

Emmy Wehlen – The Merry Widow – The Sketch – Wednesday 31st March 1909

MADE A MERRY WIDOW BY THE “FLU.”: MISS EMMY WEHLEN, WHO IS PLAYING SONIA AT DALY’S.

When last we published some portraits of Miss Wehlen it was uncertain when Londoners would see her. The uncertainty no longer exists, for the young actress is playing Sonia, Miss Lily Elsie’s part, in “The Merry Widow,” at Daly’s. Miss Elsie is out of the cast for a fortnight, that she may have opportunity to recover from a sharp attack of “flu,” and Miss Wehlen is appearing in her stead for that time. On Miss Elsie’s return Miss Wehlen will understudy her. The new Merry Widow was born at Mannheim, has acted with much success in musical plays at Munich and other places on the Continent, and made her greatest “hit” as a comedienne in “Mitternachtsmadchen.” In five months she has learned to speak English well.
