The Orchid – Theatre Advert – 1904
To-night, and during the week, Mr. George Edwardes’s principal company will appear at the Prince’s Theatre, Park Row, in the latest successful musical play, “The Orchid,” from the new Gaiety Theatre, London. There is one thing which always distinguishes pieces of this nature where Mr George Edwardes is concerned – the magnificence of colour combination and the scenic brilliance of the surroundings. The new musical play, it is said, surpasses all its predecessors in the lavishness and beauty of its artistic display, from the conservatory of the Countess of Barwick’s Horticultural College, through the vivid colour of a Nice carnival, and a delightful picture of the Bois des Anglais at night. “The Orchid” is said to be full of good things from start to finish. There is an amusing duel scene enacted by the little gardener and the French Count. The King and Queen were present at the first performance of “The Orchid.”
