Gabrielle Ray

'Gabrielle Ray said, 'I am always dancing; I love it! When I don't dance, I sing. What else is there to do?'

Gabrielle Ray (Rotary 4985 B)

This is an interesting card, dated 7th May 1910 in that the sender comments on the death of King Edward V11 (6th May 1910). The Edwardian era, which is frequently extended beyound Edward’s death to include the end of the First World War, was a period of fashion and art but also saw a shift in politics as the marginalised sections of society became more powerful. Actresses who were membes of the Actresses Franchise League supported the sufferage movement with plays and rallies that supported “Votes for Women”.
