Gabrielle Ray

'Gabrielle Ray said, 'I am always dancing; I love it! When I don't dance, I sing. What else is there to do?'

Gaiety Girls (J. Beagles 696 T)

This postcard shows three images of Marie Studhome, Gabrielle Ray and Zena Dare. There is no clear indication of the individual plays from which the images were taken but Marie Studholme’s costume may have been taken from her performance of “Josephine Zaccary” in “The Orchid”, 1904, Gabrielle Ray’s looks similar to her costume also from “The Orchid” when she played “Thisbe” in 1903, not at the same time as Miss Studholme. The final image is of Zena Dare, she didn’t perform in “The Orchid” and as the postcard is stamped November 1906 the image may have been taken from her performance as “Angela Crystal” in “The Catch of the Season” 1904.
